On this site, the defined page regions where you can add page extras are…

  • left – the left column
  • right – the right column
  • top – an optional area across the top of both the centre and right columns

In addition, the Home page has two further areas defined…

  • bottom_right – an optional area across the bottom of both the centre and right columns
  • bottom_full – an optional area right across the bottom of all three columns

And don’t forget that you can place most of the widgets anywhere in the main text area of the centre column by using the shortcode system.

On this site, the standard image sizes are as follows…

  • Images that span both the centre and right columns should be 650px x 186px.
  • Images that span the centre column should be 410px x 186px (large). This is also the size of image required for the home page slideshow widget. You can hang pictures narrower than this to either side of the main column – but this is likely to look best if the width is no more than about 195px.
  • Unboxed pictures in either the left or right column should be 210px wide and preferably 186px high (medium).
  • WordPress will also create 150px x 150px thumbnails.

To do a link to download the oxford_cyclist_L.jpg (28.8kb) file, you would use '/wingtheme/wp-content/uploads/2012/07/oxford_cyclist_L.jpg' as the link.
